Congratulations to the Long Lane U14 Kent Youth team for winning the Readers and Philips Kent Cup! On a freezing night at Lordswood FC the boys battled till the end.

After going 1-0 down in the first half we came back to 1-1, but minutes before half time Greenwich Borough scored a second. My boys never lost composure though and came out in the 2nd half and battled for the equaliser.

Aiden was bought down inside the box to win a penalty. With nerves of steel, Aiden stepped up to score from the spot making it 2-2. Full time came and with the score level that brought extra time and again Long Lane battled and dug in. With both teams coming close to scoring in extra time it was anyone's game.

At the end of extra time and with core still at 2-2 it meant the dreaded penalty shoot out. Eventually Dimi, Aiden and Bobby all scored from the spot. With the score so far at 3-2, up stepped Rhys C to slot home Long Lanes 4th. Now it was down to the keeper Rhys F to face Boroughs 4th penalty. Rhys moved up and down his line, the Borough player placed the ball to the left of the keeper and Rhys pushed the shot away!

Long Lane win 4-2 on penalties!

I've said all season that this team is special and have refrained from writing match reports but my team was solid. They never give up no matter how hard things get. They have a 'never give up' attitude and give 100% for each other. This was a great night for them and a great night for Long Lane.

Boys, I'm so proud of you.
